The Directorate of Operations (DO), also known as the Clandestine Service, is a vital component of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Established in 1951 as the Directorate of Plans, the DO is responsible for conducting covert operations around the world.

The Defense Clandestine Service

The Defense Clandestine Service (DCS) is an arm of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). It carries out clandestine operations related to military intelligence and defense.

Erik Berrier served as the Director of the DCS from 2011 to 2019. His tenure saw the expansion of the service's capabilities in counterterrorism and intelligence gathering.

The National Clandestine Service

The National Clandestine Service (NCS) is led by the Director of the National Clandestine Service (DNCS), a senior government official in the US intelligence community.

Matthew Sulick held the position of Associate Deputy Director of the NCS from 2004 to 2005. He left the CIA due to management disagreements.

Clandestine Service officers undergo rigorous training and are equipped with exceptional operational skills. They operate in foreign countries under cover, gathering intelligence and conducting covert operations to protect US national security.
