Dallas Mavericks lock up head coach for the long term

Kidd has led the Mavs to success in his first two seasons

The Dallas Mavericks have signed head coach Jason Kidd to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

Kidd has led the Mavericks to a 50-32 record and a fifth-place finish in the Western Conference in his first two seasons at the helm. He has also guided the team to the Western Conference semifinals, where they will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 on Tuesday night.

"Jason has done a tremendous job in his first two years with our team," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said in a statement. "He has helped us develop a winning culture and has our team playing at a high level. We are excited to have him lead us for many years to come."

Kidd was previously the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2013-2014. He also played 19 seasons in the NBA, winning an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.
