Canadians Invited to Celebrate Pride Season 2023
Ottawa, Ontario, June 1, 2023
The Honourable Marci Ien, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, today announced that June to September is Pride Season in Canada, a time to celebrate 2SLGBTQI+ people and their contributions to Canadian society. During this time, communities across the country will host a variety of events and activities to promote inclusivity and diversity.
Pride Parades and Festivals:
One of the most visible ways to celebrate Pride is through parades and festivals. These events feature colourful floats, lively music, and a joyful atmosphere. Major cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal will host some of the largest and most popular parades in the country.
Community and Cultural Events:
Beyond parades and festivals, Pride Season is also marked by a range of community and cultural events. These include workshops, art exhibitions, concerts, and film screenings that focus on 2SLGBTQI+ issues and experiences.
Supporting 2SLGBTQI+ Youth:
Minister Ien emphasized the importance of supporting 2SLGBTQI+ youth during Pride Season and throughout the year. She highlighted initiatives such as the Rainbow Refugee Assistance Partnership, which provides support to LGBTQ2+ individuals seeking asylum in Canada, and the It Gets Better Canada project, which offers encouragement and resources to LGBTQ2+ youth.
Canadians are encouraged to participate in Pride Season events and activities, to show their support for 2SLGBTQI+ communities, and to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
