Four Suspects Killed in Gun Battle with Police

Assassination Plunges Haiti into Uncertainty

Four Haitian Americans and a Colombian have been charged in the United States in connection with the assassination of Haiti's President Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2021. The suspects, identified as James Solages, Joseph Vincent, Christian Emmanuel Sanon, and Germán Alejandro Rivera García, were arrested in Haiti following the attack.

According to the US indictment, the suspects conspired to overthrow the Haitian government and assassinate President Moïse. They allegedly traveled to Haiti from the United States in June 2021 and planned the assassination for weeks.

On the night of July 7, the suspects allegedly stormed President Moïse's private residence in Port-au-Prince and fatally shot him. His wife, Martine Moïse, was also shot but survived the attack.

Four other suspects suspected of being involved in the assassination were killed by Haitian police in a gun battle. At least 17 people, including 15 Colombians and two American citizens, have been detained in connection with the plot.

The assassination of President Moïse has plunged Haiti into uncertainty. The country was already in crisis before the attack, with high levels of poverty, corruption, and violence.

The United States is working with Haitian authorities to investigate the assassination and bring those responsible to justice. The US has also provided Haiti with security assistance to help stabilize the country.
